Material Buyer/Planning Specialist

Boston Dynamics is looking for a Material Buyer/Planning Specialist to manage inventories and ensure that material resources are consistent with production schedules.  In this role, you will have the opportunity to put our incredible robots into production using best practices gained during your career. The Material Buyer/Planner's responsibilities include determining material specifications, creating and maintaining inventory schedules, coordinating with internal departments, and managing external stakeholder relations.

A successful Material Buyer/Planner should be able to ensure the appropriate supply of cost-efficient and high-quality materials required to maintain steady production and product delivery.

Day to day activities

  • Ensure the consistent and adequate supply of materials necessary for production
  • Determine the required materials and generating purchase orders to support the forecast
  • Ensure materials meet specifications, quality standards, and are cost-efficient
  • Coordinate with other departments regarding production goals, timelines, and forecasts
  • Track changes in business need and adjust order quantities to support business increases or decreases
  • Schedule and track the supply and delivery of materials and products
  • Ensure contract manufacturers are ordering according to the production forecast and minimize part shortage risks while balancing for excess and obsolescence exposure
  • Managing inventory issues, schedule changes, and cancellations
  • Approve invoices and coordinate supplier payments with the BD financial department
  • Preparing quarterly budget estimates and performance reports
  • Manage assigned products by maintaining or reducing costs of product components

Desired skills

  • Degree in business, logistics, supply chain management, or a related field preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in material planning, inventory management, logistics, and purchasing
  • Experience working with ERP systems planning and purchasing functions
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and sub-tier suppliers
  • Good understanding of the significance of supply chain and operations
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
