Product Safety and Regulatory Engineer

Boston Dynamics is seeking a Senior Engineer in the field of product safety, regulatory compliance, and certification testing, especially in industrial and commercial environments.

 

Summary:

This position is responsible for guiding efforts to ensure safety, reliability & maintainability of equipment, and processes. The role requires professional technical analysis requiring the full use and wide application of Engineering principles, theories, concepts and precedents concentrating in the area of Product Safety. This person would work with an interdisciplinary engineering team and play a large part in figuring out how to set a path for advanced robotics from the lab and into doing real work in the world.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience of product safety and regulation in the US and world markets, including electrical, battery, RF, and mechanical safety and compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with regulatory bodies to determine what’s necessary for market access for advanced robotic systems
  • Participate in standards organizations to set the path for future robotics safety standards
  • Work with customers to
    • Forge customer acceptance of novel robots
    • Establish safety practices
    • Develop concepts-of-operations for safe robot installations
  • Work with test labs to schedule and perform testing
  • Review test results and when necessary conduct testing;
    • Conduct product reviews and inspections according to standards requirement
    • Facilitate and maintain constant communications with project engineers, technicians, and manager;
    • Prepare formal product safety compliance verification test reports for submittal to obtain product certifications;
  • Contribute to user manuals and training programs
  • Participate in product design to build safe, certifiable systems

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required with 5+ years of experience working in product safety and compliance
  • Solid safety technical background and hands-on experience in safety certifications of complex products and executing risk analysis to eliminate safety risks
  • Experience with electrical, battery, mechanical, and RF safety and certification
  • Experience with product safety standards and regulations in the US and world markets
  • Experience fielding safe robotic or automation installations in industrial settings
