Control Systems Engineer

At Boston Dynamics, we build robots that push the boundaries of dynamic behavior and autonomy. We are looking for talented Control Systems Engineers who are passionate about working in a multidisciplinary team to change the world through advances in robot technology. Typical duties of this position include creative development of model-based controllers for mobility and/or manipulation tasks, prototyping in simulation, and carrying out experiments on hardware. Since our company is focused on delivering robust real-world machines, we place a strong emphasis on frequent evaluation and analysis of results on hardware.

We expect candidates to have a strong analytic ability and the tenacity required to take ideas from initial concept to delivery on hardware. You'll do well here if you like understanding how things move and developing algorithms to make machines realize natural, robust, and useful behaviors. Strong interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills are required.

Day to day activities include:

  •  C, C++ programming for real-time control and sensor processing
  •  Implementing high-bandwidth feedback control in hardware
  • Developing simple models of complex systems
  • Sensing and state estimation

Desired skills:

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering or computer science
  • Control of multi-DOF systems
  • Familiarity with multi-body kinematics  
  • Dynamic simulation
  • Convex optimization
  • Path planning
